Moxibustion
The technique known as moxibustion, also called moxa, is the burning of the Chinese herb mugwort, for therapeutic effects. Moxa can be indirect, where it is burned near the skin, or sometimes directly on the skin (and the skin is protected by a cream or other substance to avoid a burn). It is also used at times on the end of a needle.
This therapy is especially effective for patients experiencing pain and especially pain that is worse with cold weather. Other uses for moxa include strengthening the body or moving qi (the energy of the body)
